This incident is mentioned on page 77 in the 'Watercolours of Ireland' by Anne Crookshank and the Knight of Glin.

John Nixon was a factor or dealer in linen and made several visits to Ireland probably on business.
He was an enthuiastic amateur draughtsman who made sketches and caricatures where ever he went and some of his drawings were engraved to illustrate travel books and books of tours.
He frequented the London coffee houses and was a friend of Rowlandson.
There are quite a number of drawings by Nixon in the Ulster Museum.
