Raymond Piper came to Belfast at the age of six, he worked in Harland and Wolf shipyard for 6 years, becoming a full time artist in 1948. Well known for his illustrations of Richard Hayward's books also for boardroom oil portraits and pretty pastels of children.
In later years his research and illustration of orchids in Ireland led to his being made a member of the Linnaean Society.
This drawing was probably made by Raymond on a visit to Paris on a CEMA scholarship awarded to him that year.
