Bog Oak Desk Set
19th century
Important bog oak montage, desk set.
Triangular base with carved edges of shamrock and ivy, set on three turned feet.
Round recesses to left and right of the foreground for ink wells [traces of velvet padding].
A larger, and smaller carved wolfhound, to the right a fixed turned box named KILLARNEY
with a tablet of Muckross Abbey.
The background is a three dimensional carving of Muckross Abbey ruin and tracery window[18 cms high] beside a Round Tower with roof [30 cms high].
The larger carved items are loosely dowelled to the base for ease of packing for the 19th century tourist.
All the carvings in the montage are bog oak.
